(event date estimated)Fenlon Fury - Taking Cancer Down Event Description
It’s time to rally. With as much as it hurts to share, James was diagnosed with a rare form of t-cell lymphoma. We know the road ahead will be challenging, but he has a great team putting together his treatment plan, an amazing support system behind him, and the strength and tenacity of a Marine/Gumby/Gnome/Father/Husband/Brother/Son/Uncle/Cousin/Friend/Colleague/a million other choice words we won’t share here!
As we all know, there will be a plethora of expenses that will be added onto the Fenlon family as they gear up for this fight that insurance doesn’t cover. With Mayo on the horizon, there will be travel, hotel, childcare, medical bills, etc. that will come with all that this is. I am setting this up so that the Fenlon’s can focus on care and have funds to use for those unexpected expenses.
Once James beats this thing, any funds remaining will be passed on to another family or friend in need (or to a nonprofit doing research in this type of cancer). We know these tragedies impact all of us and appreciate any support you’re willing to contribute.
Keep the prayers and good vibes coming. We will be selling shirts so that we can rally with James to show his support - more to come!
Prognosis and Treatment Plans from James:
On a recent work trip in mid-August, I noticed a dull/nagging back pain. After returning home and based upon Lindsay's insistence, I went to urgent care for a quick check-up. By early September, I took a call from my primary care doctor informing me that I had lymphoma. After a few more pokes and prods, we met with an oncologist today and received the diagnosis of a rare type of T-cell Lymphoma.
The last month has been surreal. Everything you read or hear about getting that type of news is true - humbling, life-changing, grounding, crippling - all wrapped into one emotion. The waiting for a final diagnosis was maybe worse.
The road ahead will be tough, with twists, turns, and challenges. The great news is that we have been told the cancer is curable. In addition, with the right treatment strategy, remission is possible. That is my sole focus and goal at this point, my new true north.
Until today we have kept the news primarily between family, close friends, and professional contacts. Even with that, we have been provided a great deal of resources to help. We realize we will need a tremendous amount of support over the next year as we embark on this journey.
With that, my family created a Facebook page - Fenlon Fury: Taking Cancer Down that will be updated as we begin the road to recovery. Due to the type of cancer, it’s rarity, and guidance from a close friend, we have been in touch with Mayo Clinic in Rochester. It sounds like Mayo will take the lead with support from our local oncology team. We feel extremely fortunate to be in a spot to be able to work with Mayo and know we will receive the best care possible.
With two small kids, a beautiful wife, great family and friends, and a career I love, I have no choice but to fight for remission and a return to normalcy. I look forward to keeping in touch with all of you on this journey. I look forward to this fight - I’m betting on me!!!
